Major Parts Of An Air Conditioner & How It Works
Since the advent of air conditioners, more and more people living in tropical, Middle Eastern, and African countries have gained relief from the extreme heat of the sun. The sun’s exhausting heat waves have been known to cause several health problems which often hinder people from doing their usual activities. That is why people in such places have no other choice but to acquire the cooling effect offered by air conditioners.
However, there is no assurance that your air conditioning equipment can run effectively at all times. Event the most state-of-the-art units are prone to breaking down for some reasons, knowing that air conditioners are just machines that have limited lifespan. Time comes that your air conditioning system won’t give the cooling effect that you need and all you can do is to get the service of an AC technician to fix the problem. If this solution is not applicable to your case, then you can consider other ways that don’t require you spending too much.
Among the simplest ways to prevent over spending on air conditioning repair services is to have the basic background on how the three essential AC elements work. These elements are the compressor, the condenser, and the evaporator. The compressor is basically the element that decreases the volume of the Freon or any other refrigerant in order to increase its pressure. This part is also intended to convert the refrigerant into vapor as the compression process increases the refrigerant’s density.
The second important part of an air conditioner is the condenser. This is where the vapor is completely turned into liquid. This element first removes the sensible heat from the vapor to make it ready for condensation. After that, the liquid refrigerant is mixed with air, a gas refrigerant, to achieve 100 percent aqueous state of the refrigerant. Lastly, the obtained refrigerant will be sub-cooled by lowering its temperature until it reaches below the liquid saturation point.
On the third AC unit part, which is also called the evaporator, the refrigerant must be converted back to its gaseous phase. As the compressed and condensed refrigerant is transformed into gas, the evaporator further absorbs sensible heat from the refrigerant to enable heat transfer. This is done with the help of evaporator coils. After the refrigerant has been turned into vapor, it goes back to the compressor and the entire process is repeated. This makes the refrigeration cycle.
Other important elements of an air conditioner include the heat pump, thermostat, control panel, blower, and fan. Aside from knowing their basic functions, it is also necessary to determine how much these cost on the nearby air conditioning shops. In addition, you can make great savings if you are familiar on how AC repair and replacement services normally cost so you won’t get scammed by fraudulent AC repairman.

What is the cost to replace the condenser and evaporating coils?
They are for commercial use. I do not know what type of Air/heating units they are. On the building its 14 air units.
Good job narrowing down the details: where, what make of units, where they're located on the building (rooftop? alleyway? Narnia?) etc.
Just got an outdoor unit/evap coil replacement done, bids ran from 1800-3500. East TN, ground level, easy access around the indoor unit. Three different companies, one very new w/ immigrant labor (middle bid).
